Prayer Bozos

Hello, I’m here to blog. Although its a rather inappropriate time (I’m in the office), I’ve got a little spare time so thought i should drop a post. (:

Everyday, I take bus 107 to work, and during that time frame CNA is showing on TVMobile. Day after day I watch the morning news, and I realise how fortunate and sheltered we are, here in Singapore. It also dawns upon me that we are all, in my coined term, prayer bozos.

Prayer bozos are christians like you and me, who go about their daily lives, watch the news on earthquakes and disasters, and walk away humming our own little tune. We’ve become so prayer apathetic, because we’re safe in our little bubble. Sad to say, I think I’m very much guilty of this. Sad to say, when I watched news on the Tsunami and China earthquakes I did not feel burdened to pray for them. Sad to say, I dismissed much of the news as daily information feed. Sad to say, I’m a prayer bozo.

We lead very comfortable lives, yes we do. I don’t believe anyone of us has suffered extreme hunger, thirst, or had no roof over our heads to call home. The most extreme situations I can think of that could happen to us is forest bashing, combat rations (for the dudes), blackouts, and no water heater. Perhaps due to our cushy lives, we’ve forgotten how to be burdened, we’ve forgotten how to truly pray.

Prayer builds foundation to much of our faith. But sometimes, we become self-centered in our prayers, choosing to focus on what WE want God to do for us, at times enlarging the prayer circle a bit more to include interceding for pre-believing friends and family. But how many of us pray for people beyond our shores? Even people we don’t know?

Sometimes I wonder if my little prayer can do anything for the people recovering from the China earthquake, or for the people trapped in the China mines due to flooding. (Read today’s news) Much of that wondering for me usually results in a lot of thinking, but no action. I think its all about mindset.  We really need to move beyond our comfort zones, and open our eyes to what is happening in the world. There is much to be burdened for. God does the changes, we pray.

Let’s be challenged to be christians with a worldview. Let’s be challenged to grab ourselves out from prayer apathy. Let’s not be prayer bozos! You can start now! Watching CNA and reading Straits Times gives you plenty of things to pray for. :)

okay, back to work, have a good day peeps. Long post, long long post. Haha.

  4. I’m impressed that you were impressed 7 days later ;D

  5. WOO I’M MORE THAN IMPRESSED! ENCOURAGED AT THE SAME TIME HUMBLED! thanks for the timely and wonderful reminder chrsytal. this thought did dawn on me before, so i started paying a little more attention when the spirit whispers “there is where my heart is… pray”

when the tsunami and earthquake happened the spirit did move me to pray and i did. but its not easy to maintain focus esp when we know very little first hand whats going on. the fact that i hardly remembered what i prayed then is evidence that perhaps my prayers werent all that sincere, or rather, werent overflowing from a strong burden.

but the one thing we cant deny. the spirit yearns for us to make some noise in the spiritual realms for we afterall ” have all athourithy in heaven and on earth”! i encourage anyone who has the burden to pray to start with this. everytime u see something and u feel just slightly uncomfortable with it, jsut pour out in pray IMMEDIATELY. even short staggered prayers would do. like the gift of tongues, the gift of prayer matures with practice and exercise.

i got a lot to say but no time already, need to book in. we can CHOOSE not to be prayer bozos. lets be prayer BONOS…… rock that spritual realm…. haha
